Looking for a new owner

By Luke Townsley - Posted on 04 September 2008

These last nine months or so of running unpluggedshop.com have been interesting and profitable to me personally. I have enjoyed doing this site, and believe it fills a needed niche. I am not thinking about closing it, but I don't have the time or incentive to take it to the next level.

You see, I am having a lot of trouble keeping up with my "real" job, and would also like to spend more time woodworking and less time writing about it.

My point is that I would be willing to work through a transition, and help someone (whether a person, business, or organization) take unpluggedshop.com who could express a vision for the site that I like. I might even stick around after the transition if the new owner so desired.

Basically, I am looking for someone who is technically literate or willing to pay for quality development services (sorry, I am not for hire), and who will use the site to promote hand tool woodworking.

The site is currently getting roughly 100 visits per day according to Google analytics with about 250 page views. It is not currently generating any income, nor has it ever.

The site is currently running on the Drupal content management system which is a powerful, robust piece of development software.

If you are interested drop me an email or leave a comment, and we will talk about it.

luke, possibly i would be interested, but with a whole lot of qualifications.

we talked by ph several months ago; call me again -- if you visualize that someone like myself can/could assume operation of your site. 360-734-1186

Raymond,

You would be able to bring some good and unique things to the site.

I will try to give you a call tomorrow and see what you have in mind.

Luke

Luke,

I understand your dilemma and hope you find a solution to keep this site up and running.

Stephen

Stephen,

I guess that part of my frustration is that I think the site has a lot of potential, but I just don't have the time or resources to make it happen. For several months now, and into the foreseeable future, I won't be able to put much time into it.

I would actually like to see it eventually grow into some sort of coalition to promote hand tool woodworking perhaps among some craftsmen, authors, writers, and perhaps others interested and involved in hand tool woodworking. For reasons of restraint of time, geography, and lack of influence in the biz, I am not able to take it there by myself though.

The technical part of keeping the site running hasn't been too difficult for me, and I have mostly enjoyed and profited from that part. Adding new content is another thing altogether.

Luke

He should have some time on his hands and he could modify the site to his predilections, which would be very welcome.

Otherwise the Norse Woodsmith does something similar and you should combine resources.

There might be something to the idea of joining forces. I like doing the web administration part, and if I were just doing that, it wouldn't take too much of my time.

I really don't have the time or woodworking experience for developing and handling serious content. but I know there are some people like Stephen kicking around who have experience enough for all of us and enjoy writing about it, but for whatever reason don't want to spend years learning about how to best post it on the web.

Also, there are others who are relative newcomers who could actually do a great job writing some guides and helps for new woodworkers.
