Daiku Dojo is a community organization designed to help provide the education and skills necessary for the use of hand tools in woodworking. The organization also encourages personal involvement with community projects. By joining together we can work on interesting projects that most of us would not have the opportunity or resources to attempt alone, and at the same time, benefit local groups and organizations.

I believe it is important for every piece of furniture to have a soul and express its own individuality through design, material choices and its construction. I design each piece according to this philosophy. I have a growing attraction to the art of traditional fine furniture making so I am now minimizing the amount of machine tools I use and utilizing Japanese hand tools, which are an art form in themselves. I believe this practice not only keeps the quality high, it helps give each piece the soul it deserves.

Rob Hanson is a life-long amateur woodworker and professional operating engineer.
